The Parish Council does not have major powers to carry out policies, but it is able to advise and put pressure on the unitary council and national park authority in respect to the present and future development and condition of the parish area.   The parish council is here to represent the interests of the majority of its parishioners, and is charged to make responsible, legal, informed, objective and democratic decisions for the benefit of the whole community within the boundaries of Ugthorpe and Hutton Mulgrave parishes.
